FOR STARTERS

Here’s a  question worth pondering:

Why can't preachers, who are mortal,
     when they speak of things infernal,
know that words to be immortal
     do not have to be eternal?

Here's another:

If prayer is essential
     in tough times like these,
why aren't more clergy trousers
     worn out at the knees?

And another:

Is it writ into law? Has there been a decree?
     Has it been canonized in a song?
How did so many church members come to agree
     that a service is one hour long?
